“With our growing age, our organs tend to get weaker and lose their functionality and subsequently might develop medical conditions.” Eyesight has no exception to this theory. With growing age, eyes get weaker and vulnerable to aging eyes symptoms such as presbyopia, infection, cataract, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. In this digital era, the blue light emitted through our screens contributes to digital eye strain. And therefore, we would have to regulate our daily habits that affect our eye health significantly.

Disclaimer- I am not an ophthalmologist or an expert. But with the best of my research ability and comprehensive reading, I have tried to compact the best out of it all together through this article. However, I suggest always consulting your doctors first.

Eye Wash

First, fill your mouthful of water (it will help to expand eye muscle) and then splash the cold water in your eyes. Next, with the help of an eye wash cup (which is easily accessible from nearby optical), fill the cup with rose water and cool water in a fixed proportion, and then place the cup upside down in one eye (with eyes open) without spilling. Hold this position for 20–25 seconds and then do the same with another eye.

Do this twice a day, after waking up and before going to bed.

Eye baths would help our eyes to be free from irritation, dust, stinging, and burning. And regular practice provides good eyesight in the long term.

Barefoot Walk On Grass

This is also called ‘Grounding’. According to Ayurveda, Naturopathy, and Science studies it has been said that there exist various health benefits of walking barefoot on green grass. There are pressure points in our feet that are said to be connected with the nerves of our eyes. Walking through the grass stimulates these pressure points and improves eyesight. Moreover, nature’s greenery soothes our eyes.

Watch Out Your Screen Timing

It’s understandable that in this digital world we are obliged to sit in front of our screens. In that case, do use Eyezen glasses to limit eye strain. But the least we can do is to avoid screens for “1 hour” before going to bed and after waking up in the morning.

Slice Of Cucumber/Potato

Putting the refrigerated cucumber/potato slice over your eyes (for 15–20 minutes) not only helps you to fight against the dark circles and baggy appearance through their anti-inflammatory properties but the proper hydration soothes and relaxes your eyes and provides instant relief from eye strain.

Include this in your night or morning regime.

Hydration

Proper hydration is a must!! Their no more explanation on how proper hydration is a must for optimal body function. Remember having 9 to 10 glasses of water a day.

How about a glass of water while reading this article.

Eye Exercise

Eye exercises help to lower the risks of formulating eye diseases and strengthen the eye muscle, thus improving vision. Some of the most famous exercises are:

-Palming pose (rub your palm and keep it on your eyes)

-Blink pose ( Blinking eyes 10–15 times then rotate your index finger over it)

-Point pose (place your index finger over the forehead and sway it longitudinally outside and focus on the tip of the finger)

-Up and Down pose ( simply look up and down without head movement consequently 10–15 times)

Repeat all sets of exercises thrice.

Eat Adequately

Nutrition such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E and C, lutein, and zinc are the vitals for improving vision. This can be fulfilled by consuming green leafy vegetables; Orange and other citrus fruits; and salmon and other oily fishes (alternate for vegetarians “omega-3 fatty acids tablets “) along with balanced diet food.

Sleep well

Sleeping is the necessity that is required to restore & recharge our body and leave us refreshed when we wake up. A minimum of 5 hours of sleep is essential.

While sleeping, our eye cells get restored and subsequently a healthy cell provides good vision. Lack of sleep promotes unfavorable conditions such as eye spasms and dry eye syndrome. Therefore, sleeping well helps to restore the eyes! leading to clear eyesight, enrich lubrication, and healthful nerves and tissues in and around the eyes.

Bonus Tip

● Wear your glasses and goggles when required

● If using contact lenses, monitor proper handling and use of fresh and unexpired lens solution.

● While removing eye discharge, wash your eyes appropriately.

● Avoid Smoking.

● Off and on do visit your ophthalmologist for a comprehensive dilated eye exam or simple vision screening.

● Read and write by maintaining a distance of 25 cm.

● Avoid hard rubbing on the eye.

● Never sleep with eyeliner and mascara on.

● Don’t fix the gaze at one point for a longer duration, remember to blink and shift your sight.

That’s all. I hope this article will help you regarding your eye care routine . Let me know in the comment section if you would like to ask me and suggest something to me.
